Day 2

Mountain View Hospital 12-17-09. Waiting for Will to come into the world.

Journal Entry (Day 2, January 3rd, 2012) – Down 3 lbs. and wasn’t even hungry last night. Lifted weights 30 minutes and did 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Real time (commentary and hindsight):

Having done and tried many different diets and plans and programs, I’ve learned one thing, if I don’t lose a couple of pounds within a day or two of starting, I am gonna be done.  That’s just the way it is.  If I’m gonna be scared and miserable and chewing my fingernails and thinking about food and huffing and puffing for two days, I better step on the scale and see it go down.

Let me clarify here what 30 minutes of weightlifting and 30 minutes on the treadmill entailed.  I started off rolling my shoulders a little, maybe doing some of those arm circles you did as a kid in P.E.  Then I grabbed hold of one post of the bench press rack and kind of twisted, to loosen up my shoulders some more – did that with both arms.  Then it was 3 sets of 10 reps on the bench press, followed by standing dumbbell curls – 25 lb. dumbbells, 10 reps each arm.  That’s it.  Then it was on to the treadmill for 30 minutes.  Treadmill day 1 was exactly 60 seconds of “running” at 4.5 mph, with a 0% gradient. Then I walked at 2.8 mph for 29 minutes.  And that kicked my ass.  Starting to get the picture here?   Oh, and here’s some stats from right around day 2:  5 feet, 10 inches tall and 347 lbs.  Bodyfat percentage: off the charts.  Blood pressure: dangerous.  Waist: 48-50 ish.

Still needed to lose 6 more pounds to hit my goal weight.
